Description
Anti-immigrant movements in the U.S. are nearly as old as the nation itself. We will be looking at these movements, from the 'alien and sedition' attacks of the 1790s, to the Know-Nothing agitation of the 1850s, the anti-Chinese outburst of the 1870s and 1880s, the Ku Klux Klan/eugenics crusade of the 1910s and '20s, the Japanese-American internment of the 1940s, to the MAGA eruption of the 2010s and '20s. We will also probe the developments and conditions which triggered these movements, how they impacted society, and how they were eventually contained or resolved both culturally and politically.
Well-known speaker of Freeport, Andy Dvorak, presents.
