Description
Join us for an engaging and approachable overview of today’s food system. We’ll explore common farming practices, break down certifications and labels, and discuss how nonprofits and local initiatives support farmers and communities. Participants will also learn how to navigate farmers markets, CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture), and other local food resources — and how to confidently “find your farmer.”
Whether you’re curious about soil health, climate impact, or simply want to make informed food choices, this session will help connect the dots from field to table.
FREE! No registration required.
We work for Farmers Rising - a farmer supporting and training non-profit based in Caledonia, IL. At Farmers Rising, we lift up the people doing local and regenerative farming. We are at the forefront of farmer training and public education, actively working to develop a vibrant, creative community centered around local food. We offer a variety of educational opportunities at our two main program locations in Rockford and Caledonia, Illinois, as well as throughout the region. Our programs lift up farmers and support the launch and growth of local, sustainable farms through production and financial management training such as a farm business training program, a livestock focused farm business incubator. We address food sovereignty by expanding access to land and locally grown food. And we empower individuals to make food choices that positively impact personal, community and environmental health. Through our community education, we offer programs and experiences around cooking and farm life.
Because our organization is staffed by practicing and aspiring farmers, as well as food system workers, we get excited about everything related to food, we enjoy demystifying farming experiences to the public, and we love exploring production and sales systems whether organic or regenerative, online or at farmers markets.
